GMO Analysis

Our DNA Laboratory specializes in the testing of different commodities, including raw agricultural crops, food, feed, and processed products for the presence of bioengineered or genetically modified organisms (GMOs).

We have developed advanced techniques for extracting DNA from processed products, such as crude oils, dehydrated powders, and other challenging matrices, which allows us to determine low levels of GMO with high precision in these samples.

 

Approved Laboratory

OMIC USA Inc. is an Approved Laboratory for the Non-GMO Project. As an Approved Laboratory, we cover all testable high-risk crops and ingredients, with pre-selected profiles that meet the Standard testing requirements and support your product verification needs.

As a Foreign Official Laboratory for Japan and Korea, we offer additional expertise in commodities destined for Asian markets, and our GMO testing methods meet the standards and requirements of regulatory and certification bodies around the world.

Cotton GMO

OMIC USA Inc. is one of a handful of labs worldwide, and the only lab in North America, that has implemented and passed the proficiency test initiative for cotton GMO screening following the ISO IWA 32:2019 protocol. The ISO IWA 32:2019 protocol was developed between the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS), the Organic Cotton Accelerator (OCA), and Textile Exchange in 2019 as a globally accepted method to screen for genetically modified elements in cotton. Coupled with our Chemical Testing Services, our IWA 32:2019 profile can support your organic cotton product certification needs.

NGS and Other Services

Other service offerings include Plant Pathogen Detection, Rice Variety Identification, and Food Allergen Testing. We also offer a suite of testing utilizing Next-Generation Sequencing, including Plant & Fungal Species Identification, Microbiome testing, and Crop Genotyping. Common Testing Questions

Please fill out a Sample Submission Form for your sample type. It is imperative that the form be included or emailed with the sample in order to begin testing. Sample entry and analysis will not begin until a completed Sample Submission Form is received.

Sample forms can be e-mailed to sales.us@omicusa.com.

Please contact us to discuss the quantity of sample needed for testing.

Each sample should be securely placed in an individual container and properly sealed to prevent any potential cross contamination or leakage. Samples that need refrigeration should be shipped in a cooler or insulated box on ice. Each sample should be visibly labeled and match the included submission form. Normal receiving hours are Monday-Friday, 8:30 am – 5:00 pm Pacific Time (after hours receipt may be scheduled in advance).

Chemical lab: 7 business days

GMO lab: 5 business days

Microbiological lab: 1 to 5 business days (depending on analysis type)

Nutrition: 10-15 business days (depending on sample type)

Rush analysis is an option, and its availability is determined at the time of sample submission.

Please note that additional fees will be applied.

In most cases, we offer rush analysis on Pesticides, Herbicides, GMO, DNA, and Mycotoxins. The amount of time needed depends on how many samples are already in-house, how many samples need to be tested, and the type of sample being analyzed. Typically, clients can rely on the following timelines:

Pesticides/Herbicides/Mycotoxins:

Rush 5-day analysis: Add 50% of the original cost. Rush 3-day analysis: Add 100% of the original cost.

GMO/DNA:

Rush 3-day analysis: Add 50% of the original cost. Rush 24-hour: Add 100% of the original cost.
